Spun Optical Fiber

  • Spun Optical Fiber
  • Spun Optical Fibers are specialty, highly birefringent optical fibers created by spinning a bow-tie-style, single mode, polarization-maintaining preform during the draw process as opposed to twisting it after drawing. They are spun so that the bow-tie rotates along the axial direction of the fiber (see image at top of page).

We offer fiber for 1310 nm (Item #'s SHB1250G80 and SHB1250) as well as 1550 nm (Item # SHB1500) laser sources. Unlike traditional PM fibers, they are designed to preserve linear and circular polarization, and the output polarization is insensitive to thermal and vibrational noise, as well as drift caused by stress-induced birefringence.
